Summer 2009 Workshop

Living History Period Crafts II

                   Open to all
                   Prerequisite: None
                   Instructor: Kate Besaw, retired, Peru Central
                   Monday - Thursday, June 29, 30, July 1, & 2
                  Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
                  Place: Sibley Hall Room 214
                  Cost: $100
                  Register by: June 22
                  1 in-service credit

                          Teachers from across the North Country have been making history come alive in their   
                        classrooms by participating in Living History experiences at NCTRC.  They learn how to  
                        create period activities at the Center and then bring these activities back to their classroom
                        and have their students bring them to life.  Once teachers see the interdisciplinary      
                       connections and the enthusiasm of their students, teachers realize the value in creating
                       various period crafts and how it is indeed a truly rewarding experience for everyone.

                        This course will focus on creating bandboxes, a checkerboard game, cross – stitching,
                       stenciling, and silhouettes. Participation is open to anyone wanting to learn new ways to
                       engage their students in living history!
