American Sign Language II

This course is designed for those who have taken American Sign Language Part I.

Join Erin as she continues the study of Sign Language. Participants will enhance their skills as they continue using units 6-9 of the videotext. Anyone who has taken Part II and needs review before continuing on with Part III (Beginning April 5, 2006) can make arrangements to attend review sessions.

Inspiration / Kidspiration

Producing graphic organizers can be a helpful strategy in preparing students for the NYS Assessments.

These software programs use the computer to organize ideas and add graphics for classroom work. They are powerful visual learning tools that inspires students to develop ideas and organize thinking. Participants will receive an introduction to the Inspiration/Kidspiration software as well as applications for it use. Participants will learn how to integrate Inspiration’s concept maps, literature webs, and Venn diagrams to expand student knowledge Participants will leave with free 30 day demo copies.

Filemaker Pro
A Database for your classroom

Adobe Photoshop Elements is an exciting tool that allows you to create original and highly professional looking instructional aids. Colors shapes, drawing tools, and text can be woven together to command your students attention and make your message clear. This course will help you feel confident creating and publishing your own aids. Past participants have created banners, posters, transparencies, handouts and much more. After taking this course participants will have met the prerequisite for Adobe Photoshop Advanced/Beginner beginning March 7, 2006.

Microsoft Excel

Would you like to know how to help students produce professional looking graphs and tables for their classroom projects? Excel spreadsheets, tables, and graphs give students tools that allow them to manipulate data and present the results clearly and concisely. Excel gives the teacher an opportunity to meet NYS Standards (specifically, the students demonstrating a knowledge of technology and its application to problem solving). If you're tired of rewritting class lists every time a student enters or leaves your class. Excel will give you the tool to make these changes in only a few seconds. As a tool for your classroom management, Excel will increase your efficiency, allow you to keep track of student averages and develop mailing lists.

Flash: Level-I (Beginners)

Learn the basics of 2-dimensional animation in simple terminology. This “basics level” workshop will give participants an opportunity to work & play with text, shapes, colors and photos in an environment that has every industry on the cutting edge.

Hands-on training along with proper planning will help you to develop animated sequences that can be used on Websites and in Video as well as for Presentations in the classroom or the Board Room. Graphic titles and opening sequences for television, video, DVD and the web can now be produced in Flash.

Examples of how Flash is being used in real world applications will be available. From Cartoon Network’s basic (and roughly drawn) “Home Movies” to the more complex “Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi” to low-end & high-tech websites to creating a photo slideshows through the use of built-in templates.

As always, come with ideas and expect to have some fun!

This workshop will introduce participants to the building blocks of web development – HTML – in the simplest and most comprehensive terms around without the technical babble.

We will also introduce and explain the basics of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and how important CSS really is to web developers. Also covered in this workshop is how to use the built-in templates found in FrontPage and how to customize them to suit your business, educational or personal needs.

Learn the importance of “meta tags” and the use of “keywords” which work together with search engines.
